Cross Country Season Registration is on it's way...

         Coach Barbara and the Board are working together to get ready for our Cross Country Season 2021.  We will be starting Cross Country practices on Monday, August 30 at 6pm and we will practice on Monday and Wednesday evenings with Saturday morning as a possible additional practice. Our first meet will be the Beach Blast on September 10 in Olsen Park. We are also trying to bring back our Monster Dash in Carolina Beach State Park, we hope to have it on October 8th. Our season will end with nationals in December and our end of season party.

As track and field season draws to a close we look forward to the upcoming cross country season. We are proud to announce that Barbara Bass will be the head coach for our cross country season.  Coach Barbara is a USATF Level One Certified coach.  She ran cross country and track in high school and during her time at Georgia Tech. After college she ran professionally for Adidas. Coach Barbara has been coaching with the Flyers since the 2019 Cross Country Season,  last year she competed with the team at the 2020 AAU XC Nationals where she finished third in her age group in the Open/Masters 5k and she ran for Gold in the Masters 800m at the James Carter Invitational in May.  When not running, Coach Barbara is a mother of four and local relator.

USATF Region 3 Junior Olympic Track & Field Championship...

The USATF Region 3 Junior Olympic Track and Field Championship was a three day meet in Greensboro, NC at NC A&T University's Aggie Stadium.

Day 1 Thursday, July 15. Three Athletes competed in 5 events and won medals in them all. Sadie Bass, Amelia Medlin, and Holly McKee all ran the 3000m and brought home gold in each of their divisions. Holly McKee also ran the 2k Steeplechase earning the bronze medal  and she threw Javelin for silver. Ethan Fay also threw Javelin for a silver medal.

During Day 2 of competition, July 16, 8 Flyers competed in a total of 13 events earning 12 medals before competition was cut short by a weather delay. The first event of the day was the 1500m. Sadie Bass, Lily McKee, Alison Clifford,  Charlie Clifford, Teddy Clifford, Holly McKee, Teagan McKee, and Mia Medlin all ran and medaled in this event.  1 silver, 2 bronze, and 3 gold
Later in that morning , Alison Clifford, Charlie Clifford, Teddy Clifford, Lily McKee, and Teagan McKee threw Javelin, 4 of them earned medals 3 silver and 1 gold

Saturday, July 17, the final day of competition, started with the 800m run by LIly McKee, Sadie Bass, Jamar Brumm, Alison Clifford, Charlie Clifford, Teagan McKee, and Amelia Medlin. Four medals were earned 2 bronze and 2 silvers. Jamar Brumm ran the 400m Dash setting a PR and earned a bronze.
Sally Bass competed in Shot Put and Discus. Jamar Brumm and Connor Lannou competed in Long Jump.  Connor earned a bronze medal.

Flyers Found Much Success at USATF NC Association Championship

The USATF NC Association Junior Olympic Track & Field Championship took place in Greensboro, NC at NC A&T Aggie Stadium on July 9-10, 2021. Over two days of competition,  20 Flyers competed in 42 event earning  15 medals and 10 ribbons total.

Friday, July 9 Cape Fear Flyers earned 4 Bronze, 3 Silvers, and 2 Gold medals  and 4 ribbons. The four bronze medals were earned by Eden Watkins, Amelia Medlin, Holly McKee, and Allison "Drew" Coble running the 1500m in their individual age divisions. One silver was earned by Teagan McKee running 1500m as well. Sadie Bass and Lily McKee each earned a ribbon running the 1500m. Lily  McKee also earned a silver medal throwing Javelin. Ethan Fay earned our third silver medal throwing Javelin. Ellie Garrett and Teagan McKee each earned ribbons throwing Javelin. The teams two gold medals were earned by Hannah Grace in Pole Vault and High Jump.

Saturday, July 10th was another successful day of competition for the Cape Fear Flyers. Flyers athletes earned 2 bronze and 4 silver medals and 6 ribbons. During the 300m runs, Sadie Bass and Holly McKee each earned silver medals, Amelia Medlin received a bronze, and Chloe Davis brought home a fifth place ribbon. Jamar Brumm earned a bronze medal in the 400m, a silver medal running the 800m, and a fifth place ribbon in long jump. Holly McKee also earned a silver medal throwing Javelin. Amelia Medlin, Teagan McKee, and Lily McKee all earned ribbons running the 800m. Katherine Coble earned a fourth place ribbon throwing  Javelin.

It was a great weekend of competition and comradery on the oval at North Carolina A&T Aggie Stadium. We can not wait to go back to Greensboro for the USATF Region 3 Junior Olympic Track & Field Championship July 15 -17, 2021.
