Cross Country Season 2022 is coming...

Our Cross Country 2022 season will begin on August 22 we will be meeting in Veterans Park at picnic shelter #2 just outside the visitor side of the Ashley High School Stadium at 6:00pm. We serve athletes ages 6-18.

During cross country season, the Cape Fear Flyers teach athletes the fundamentals of long distance running in a fun, competitive, and team-centric environment. Our program helps athletes build strength, endurance, flexibility, coordination, & speed, all skills built while running cross country that can also be applied to many other sports

This years regular season will end around Thanksgiving, qualifying athletes continue to train until the National Meet in mid December. 

Athletes need to bring water or drink, a beach towel or yoga mat, and bug spray to each practice and dress properly for the weather.

The Road to the AAU Junior Olympics in Greensboro

AAU District Meet Summary

The Cape Fear Flyers  started their journey to the 2022 AAU Junior Olympics last weekend at the  AAU NC District Qualifier at Olympic High School in Charlotte, NC.  

25 Cape Fear Flyers and their families traveled to Charlotte this weekend to compete in a total of 59 events over two days.

During Day 1, June 4, of the AAU NC District Qualifier, 22 Flyers Competed in 38 events. Flyers Qualified for the AAU Region 25 Qualifier Meet in 17 events while earning a total of 4 medals. 2 Flyers are State Champions in the 3000m. Teagan McKee, a rising fifth grader at Carolina Beach Elementary School, earned a Bronze medal in the 3000m and a Silver medal in the Turbo-Javelin. Ralph Pfeil is the 12 year old boys State Champion in the 3000m. Amelia Medlin, a rising 8th grader at Roland Gris Middle School, is the 14 year old State Champion in the 3000m.

 Day 2 , June 5, of the AAU NC District Qualifier. 18 Flyers competed in 20 events. Flyers Qualified for the AAU Region 25 Qualifier Meet in 16 events while earning a total of 5 medals. 2 Flyers are State Champions in the 1500m. Amelia Medlin is the 14 year old girls State Champion in the 1500m. Ralph Pfeil is the 12 year old boy State Champion 1500m. Two rising 8th graders from Charles P  Murray Middle School each earned bronze medals in Javelin Throw, Lily McKee is third in the state 13 year old girl and Jamar Brumm is third in state 13 year old boy. The fifth medal earned was Silver by Ethan Fay, a rising senior at Eugene Ashley High School, in the 17-18 year old Men Javelin Throw.

Beside the winners of the 9 medals,  16 other athletes also qualified to the AAU Region 25 Qualifier. Those  22 Flyers qualified in 33 events at the regional meet.
